Lot 4429 RELIEF CHISELED GERMAN SWEPT HILT BROADSWORD.
This interesting example is features a relief chiseled swept hilt with scenes consisting of men at arm, damsels, & punch dot floral patterns. The guard consists of a serpentine knuckle bow that attaches to the quillion block with upward sweeping crossguard. A loop guard extends from the quillion block and attaches to the side ring and counter guard. These are attached to the quillion block with arm branches. . It is mounted on a 37" double edged blade with full length large fuller flanked by two secondary fullers. It is capped with a matching egg shaped pommel. The swelled walnut grip is missing its wrap. CONDITION: The unmarked blade has been polished bright with scattered pitting. Grips have scattered gouges. There is a little wiggle in the pommel. PROVENANCE: Estate Collection of Nicholas Apergis.
